St. Augustine to host Family Promise of Greater
Chattanooga clients March 10-17, 2019
As part of our parish ministry to Family Promise of Greater Chattanooga, we will be hosting temporarily homeless families the week of March 10. This is a wonderful opportunity to give of your time and talent during Lent and a chance to include your whole family in participating in the Corporal Works of Mercy. The families will arrive each day at around 4:45 p.m. and leave early the next morning for work, school, classes, etc.
We need volunteers to fill the following needs that week: Setup on Sunday, March 10 following 10:30 Mass Help unload the beds and luggage from the trailer and transition classrooms to bedrooms for our guests and volunteer hosts. Greeters (from 4:45 to 5:30 each evening): Someone to greet our guests when they arrive in the afternoon and stay until the Dinner volunteers arrive. Dinner preparers (from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. each evening): Prepare dinner to serve to and share with our guests. Meals may be prepared at church or prepared at home and brought to church. Feel free to team up with fellow parishioners to prepare and serve the meal. (Note: Friday, March 15 will be covered by the Knights of Columbus) Evening hosts (from 6:15 to 8:15 each evening): Visit with our guests and entertain the children with games and toys or help them with homework. We have plenty of games and activities available at church for various age groups. This is a great opportunity to involve the whole family. Overnight hosts (from 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. the following day): We need 2 volunteers to spend the night and offer coffee and quick breakfast foods (provided by the church) so our guests are ready for pickup by the van around 6:00 a.m. Breakdown on Sunday, March 17 beginning at 6:30 a.m. We need help with breakdown and move-out when our guests depart. Volunteers will load beds and suitcases back on the trailer, help clean the kitchen and restrooms and put classrooms back in order. Many hands make light work!! A volunteer sign-up sheet is posted in the narthex or you may contact Susan Veal at 240-9095 or via email at [email protected] to sign up.
